The all-acoustic ensemble Jazz Gitan (pronounced J'tawn) is high energy hot gypsy jazz. They perform a modern variant of 1930-1940’s Django Reinhardt-inspired music.
Composer and lead guitarist Don Price mixes original compositions with the Parisian Jazz influence.
The acoustic jazz ensemble, Jazz Gitan, has a straightforward agenda: to keep the spirit of Gypsy jazz alive and expanding in today’s musical universe. The virtuoso trio (sometimes foursome), offers up a newly minted sound, influenced by the classic Hot Club of France, yet wholly contemporary. Founded by guitarist Don Price, the band performs dynamic and lyrical arrangements of both Gypsy jazz standards and original compositions that draw upon diverse international rhythms and musical idioms. With Giorgi Khokhobashvili on virtuoso violin, and Darrell Fernandez on double bass, Ray Sayre on rhythm, Jazz Gitan is dedicated to expanding the boundaries of a vital musical genre.
